ALL ABOUT CELTA for more information about doing CELTA at International House Madrid.

What is CELTA?
Cambridge University’s certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults equips you with the skills needed to teach English in just four weeks. It is the most widely known qualification worldwide and a pre-requisite for a teaching post in most countries. More information about the course content is available online at http://www.cambridge-efl.org

What does the CELTA cover and how is it assessed?
The CELTA course is a practical, continuously assessed course, moderated by an external assessor from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. Candidates are required to teach at 2 different levels, observe experienced teachers and submit a portfolio of coursework which includes written assignments. The course programme covers language awareness, the learner, the teacher and the learning/teaching context, planning for effective teaching, classroom management skills, resources and materials and professional development.

What qualifications and experience do I need?
Candidates are usually graduates. You need to be over 20* and have an educational standard that would allow you to enter Higher Education in your country, as well as a competence in both written and spoken English that will enable you to follow the course successfully and develop the necessary skills to become an effective teacher of English.
*in exceptional circumstances those over the age of 18 may be accepted at our discretion.

How does the application process work?
You complete the Application Form and Application Task, and submit as attachments or by post. If you meet the candidate criteria, you are invited for an interview (live in Madrid, at an International House near you or on the telephone). If you are accepted, you will need to pay a deposit of €300 to reserve a place on a course. One month before the course begins you will need to pay the balance of your course fee. You may pay by credit card or bank transfer.
We need to receive your application well in advance because courses fill up quickly. However, we reserve the right to cancel courses with one month's notice if circumstances dictate. In this event, if you wish, your application may be transferred to another course of your choice within the ih World Organisation.
