CELTA COURSE MADRID
TYPICAL DAY

CELTA FULL-TIME

09.30 - 11.30 Input
The day usually begins with two hours of training from the course tutors. There are normally two sessions and the tutors deliver their input in the same way that the trainees teach the students in their assessed classes.

11.30-12.00 Coffee Break
International House Madrid has its own cafeteria where trainees can have breakfast or lunch. WIFI connection is free and some trainees use this time to check their email and keep up-to-date with friends and family back home.

12.00 - 14.00 Feedback and Planning
The session starts with a group discussion on the classes that were taught the day before, followed by grading from the tutor. The rest of the morning is devoted to lesson planning and preparation. The trainees take an active role in planning the material for class which may include adapting the coursebook or resourcing material from the internet.

14.00-15.00 Lunch Break
Trainees have an hour for lunch and although the cafeteria is open all day, we also encourage trainees to get out of the school for a while. During summer, there are a number of plazas (squares) where you can eat outside in the the glorious Madrid sun.

15.00-17.45 Teaching Practice
The afternoon is devoted to teaching practice. The trainees teach a group of practice students - students who know that the teachers are in training. The tutor is always in the classroom not only to grade the lesson, but to help out if teachers get into difficulty.

17.45 »
Trainees are free to go home now. However, many of them stay on a while to work in the library preparing a written assignment or planning the next lesson. We have a great reference library and all technical facilities including computers, printers & scanners are available to trainees.

The following day, it all starts again ...
