About your classes

Our teaching philosophy at International House is based on communication in a consistently dynamic & friendly environment; backed up by thorough language focus and practice, we see this as the route to overall linguistic progress.

  • In a typical class you will:
  • work in pairs and groups as well as individually;
  • use a text book recommended by the course director;
  • employ all types of learning materials and texts prepared by your teacher;
  • listen to CD's and watch DVD's selected for their didactic relevance;
  • participate in language games designed as learning support.

IH Madrid maintains a team of substitute teachers on standby to cover any teacher absence. In the event that your regular teacher is unable to give the class (eg due to illness) a qualified member of our teaching team will substitute.

Group size

Our groups usually consist of an average of 8 students, ideal to meet individual needs through rich group dynamics. The maximum number of students per class is 12, and the minimum 4. In company training courses, the maximum is 6.

Student Progress

The assessment of your progress is done in several ways: - Continuous assessment during your course by the teacher - Written tests at regular intervals through your course - Individual tutorials with each student Tutorials offer an excellent opportunity for the student to receive individualised attention with personalised advice on their language study and how to supplement learning outside the classroom, both during the course and in the future. Your progress during the course will determine if you go up to the following level.

For business course students, completing a BULATS test at the end of the course allows us to objectively assess the progress made by each student.
