VISA Information

If you need a student visa to study with IH Madrid, you first need to consult with the Spanish consulate in your country, preferably 120 days before coming to study with us.

These are the requirements for you to get an invitation letter from us:

*Booking an Intensive course of 20, 25 or 30 hours per week
*Payment of the entire course and accommodation (optional) by bank transfer and proof of payment.
*Photocopy of passport

The school will send confirmation of the course as well as a signed and sealed invitation letter to be submitted to the consulate or embassy by email.
If your request is rejected, we will need the document that denies your student visa. With this, IH Madrid will refund the full amount of the course, minus 250 euros for administration costs.

Social programme

Our activities programme at International House Madrid is organised with the aim of offering the student a cultural and historical view of the city, as well as providing a space for practicing and socialising with other students from the school, in a context different from the classroom. All our activities take place in the afternoons/evenings, after the intensive course, and last approximately two hours in most cases.

The social programme is carried out by a teacher who explains and helps the students to understand the information given, always encouraging their participation and interaction. The cultural activities vary each week and although they are voluntary, we always recommend the students to participate as it is a way of completing the language immersion programme through practice and knowledge of the Spanish culture.

Some of the cultural activities offered on a regular basis are:

-Guided walks through historic districts of Madrid (Austrias, Barrio de las Letras, Borbones, Malasaña, etc).

-Visits to museums such as El Prado, Reina Sofía, Archaeological, Sorolla, etcetera.

-Visits to important monuments in the city, such as the Royal Palace, Telecommunications Palace, Circulo de Bellas Artes, Temple of Debod…

-Visits to historical parks and activities related to the environment, such as bicycle tours or walks along ecological trails around the city (Casa de Campo, Monte de El Pardo, etc.).

-Gastronomic tastings such as tapas, chocolate with churros, ham and wine tastings, as well as activities that bring a closer insight into the knowledge of our diet, such as visits to traditional shops and markets.

-Activities that motivate oral expression such as exchanges with Spanish students or conversation clubs.

-Shows linked to our culture, such as flamenco or traditional festivals and fairs such as San Isidro, La Paloma, etc.

Especially in summer, we also organise weekend excursions to nearby cities of great historical importance such as Segovia, Toledo, Ávila, Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez or San Lorenzo del Escorial, among others.

Your first day

We’ll be waiting for you at 8.30am on your first day so you can take a short level test, and then we’ll assign you to a group. If you prefer, you can do the written part online in advance, and then when you get here you’ll only need to do the speaking part.

If you’re a complete beginner, you don’t need to do a level test and you should arrive at 9.00am.

Then, you’ll be given a welcome pack with class material, as well as your course book, which is all included in the price.

Before going upstairs to your class, the Head of Studies will give a tour of the school. She will give all new students information about the facilities and tell you about the social program planned for that week.

Your class starts at 9.30am!
