Blended Cambridge CELTA course

The TEFL qualification that is trusted by employers

Cambridge Blended CELTA Online Course

The Cambridge Blended CELTA Online is a 12-week combined face-to-face and online teacher training. There are 10 sessions of supervised lesson planning & face-to-face teaching practice with real students on Saturday mornings, including observation of experienced and qualified teachers. The training is assessed according to the same criteria as the face-to-face course, and the course leads to full CELTA qualification

Teaching Practice

Teaching Practice is an important part of all teacher training courses. The face-to-face element of the Cambridge CELTA Course Online ensures trainees gain this valuable experience. Teaching Practice is conducted in groups, with each candidate teaching for a total of six hours, with peers observing. A Cambridge authorised tutor will give you feedback on each of your teaching sessions.

Online component

CELTA training online includes interactive tasks, guided video observation and forum discussion. The aim is to develop effective, principled teaching methodologies. An advantage of the online CELTA component is the increased amount of time and support for you to reflect on and develop what you have learnt.

Face-to-face component

The only requirement to come into the centre is on a Saturday morning from 10:00-14:30 over 10 Saturdays for the face-to-face teaching practice.

Benefits of Online CELTA Training

CELTA Online tasks and course materials are always accessible, giving you the flexibility to fit your training around other commitments. You spend less time travelling to and from the centre with potentially reduced accommodation and travel costs. You will have more time to reflect on and develop your learning.

How the BLENDED CELTA course works:

Online access to the training modules
You are given access to the online training platform on the first day of the course. This allows you to complete the orientation module and the first three training modules before you meet the students.

Online training
You cover three modules per week online. Lesson planning and self-evaluation of your teaching are also done at home, with guidance from your tutor. We will write the first lesson for you and help you write the others.

Introduction to the others on the course
On the first Saturday, you are introduced to the other members of the group and then you split into teaching practice groups. You watch your tutor teach the students that you will teach the following Saturday.

Teaching Practice and face-to-face training
This is done in the centre on Saturday mornings from 10:00-14:30. The first hour is dedicated to last-minute questions about your lesson. Teaching practice is from 11:00-13:30. You teach a 45-minute lesson each Saturday, starting from the second Saturday of the course.

Mid-week deadlines
By Monday, you submit a self-evaluation on your lesson.
By Tuesday, you get written feedback and a grade for the lesson.
By Thursday, you submit your plan for your next lesson.

Planning meeting
On Thursday, at a time that is convenient to you, there will be a telephone or Zoom meeting with your tutor to discuss your plan and the next lesson.

Written assignments
Like all CELTA courses, there are four written assignments and these are spread throughout the course. You will be given plenty of support and if necessary, a sample assignment from your tutor to help you with your written work.
